[date] Meeting My Match: Deal Breaker

Four months ago, I began my journey into the world of online dating. Match.com was my trusty steed. A healthy dose of skepticism was my armor. And, despite all odds, my destination was happiness in the form of a relationship. Despite the makings of a truly epic adventure, how it actually unfolded was awkward, comical and, ultimately, unexpected.
First of all, the thought of becoming a crazy cat lady had never really scared me. I joined babynames.com to keep track of what I’d name my dozen or so cats – Chewbacca …

[date] Online Dating for Dummies

Meeting people online isn’t a new thing in 2010. In fact, it’s practically old hat. For years, we’ve connected via Facebook and Twitter and MySpace. (Though if you are still using MySpace, I think you need to re-evaluate a few things… Namely why you choose to hang out on the internet’s version of a trailer park.) I had no dates lined up and an inbox full of neglected messages from would-be suitors awaiting my clever, charming and oh-so awkward responses. It was time to change my approach. Time to get serious. Or serious-er.
Dating is a lot like plate spinning, I imagine. When you’re indiscriminately pursuing all leads, regardless of your actual interest in them, it becomes a bit overwhelming. It takes …

[do] Stay In On Valentine’s Day

Picture it: you are sitting at a tiny table surrounded by lots of other tiny tables with tiny candles and tiny vases with fake carnations in them. Couples holding hands, drinking white zinfandel and whispering sweet nothings to each other from across the table abound. You my friend, have entered the dreaded Valentine’s Day celebration zone.
Going out for Valentine’s Day can be so overrated. There is so much pressure to have a super-fantastic romantic time that you end up eating an overpriced, subpar meal and having an argument about why …
