[do] Cheap Date: Ice Skating

Maybe this isn’t so much of an informative piece as it is a public plea for someone to take me on this date. Is that too much to ask? I’ve always considered it the epitome of the perfect, picturesque winter rendezvous. I don’t know if hipsters ice skate, but expect a progress report soon.
An evening at the Wichita Ice Center is a great option for couples who are tired of the stale dinner-and-a-movie on Saturday and makes for an awesome, no-pressure first date activity as well. It’s …

[do] Wichita Center for the Arts

It’s no secret that Wichita is an arts town, and that’s why I love it.
There are a number of all-encompassing 0rganizations that promote creative Wichitans in some capacity and give them a chance to showcase their talent, and The Wichita Center for the Arts is one of my favorites.
Between the Center Theatre, the Mary R. Koch School of Visual Arts, and the Gallery, there is something for every artistic taste. Even if you’re merely an arts appreciator, the center has numerous volunteer opportunities.

So, if this nonsense is …

[move] Rock Climbing on the Prairie

If you’re looking for a new hobby that’ll keep you fit, up your extreme factor, and provide an avenue to meet a ton of cute boys, give rock climbing a try. I realize Kansas isn’t exactly mountainous, but don’t get discouraged. Many flatland dwellers have found there are plenty of places to accommodate anyone’s need to reach some altitude.
Unfortunately, rock climbing isn’t something you can just dive into. It is absolutely imperative that you are supervised or receive the proper training. You won’t get a chance to talk to those cute …

[eat] Vegetarian in Kansas – It’s not Easy Being Green

At the end of September, I got my PETA-dues-paying, liberal heart in a whirl and decided to walk the walk. I pledged to go vegetarian.
I didn’t feel like I could realistically commit to being a vegan. I can’t survive without cereal. I’m in college. It’s a staple.
As my adventures in a meatless world began, I noticed something: it’s really hard to be a vegetarian in the Midwest. Your food decisions aside, people think you’re un-American if you decline meat. While the dining options are limited, it’s not impossible to …
