[shop] Garage Sale-ing for Dummies

I love garage sales. I love estate sales. I love rummaging through other people’s junk, hoping to find something to take home and love forever… Or at least until I sell it at my own garage sale.
Wichita is a garage sale aficionado’s paradise, with sales starting on Thursday morning and continuing through Saturday afternoon. True treasure hunters pore over the garage sale listings in the Wichita Eagle and on Craigslist and map out their plan of attack. I prefer the less structured approach of driving through my favorite Wichita neighborhoods and hoping …

[hack] Share Your Wichita Location with Foursquare & Gowalla

On Saturday, I became the mayor of Larry Bud’s.
This was a big moment for me. After weeks of visiting the popular sports bar (it’s located in the same strip mall as my day job – don’t judge), I finally ousted the current mayor.
No, I wasn’t voted into office by election. There wasn’t a huge political coup or even a duel between the former mayor and me. I managed to kick him out by the power of my Blackberry and a little app called Foursquare.

[shop] Where to Buy Shoes in Wichita

Confession: I have big feet. There, I said it. Being the owner of boat-sized feet means that while most women can show up at Dillards and pick out an adorable pair of dainty, pointy-toed stilettos, I am stuck looking at sensible pumps that are way more Bea Arthur than Rue McClanahan. Plus any shoe that looks cute in a size 6 often looks like it was made for a clown in a size 11.
Having feet that rival Paul Bunyan’s turns what should be a fun, girly shopping trip into a …

[think] East vs. West: The East Side = The Best Side

Wait a minute, Westsiders! Before you drive your jumbo-sized SUVs off a cliff after reading this post, you should know it’s the finale in a two-part “duel” between a passionate Westsider and an equally passionate Eastsider and the West Side had its moment of glory yesterday. But don’t leave the debate up to us – be sure to chime in with a comment about why YOUR side of town is superior.
When I moved to Wichita five years ago, I settled into an apartment on the Northeast side because it was …
