[do] Chapin Park is Going to the Dogs

Winter always seems to drag on. That first dip in temperature always takes the wind out of my sails. And the stir-craziness that days upon days of cold, gray weather turns me into a pasty white Hulk. I know I’m not the only one, too. By January, that 90-pound mess that I call Yellow Dog starts giving me a dejected look like, “Is it going to be like this forever?”
Now that spring has arrived, Wichitans of the two- and four-legged variety alike are ready to soak up the sunshine – …

[date] Meeting My Match: Deal Breaker

Four months ago, I began my journey into the world of online dating. Match.com was my trusty steed. A healthy dose of skepticism was my armor. And, despite all odds, my destination was happiness in the form of a relationship. Despite the makings of a truly epic adventure, how it actually unfolded was awkward, comical and, ultimately, unexpected.

[date] Meeting My Match: The Third

A is for Awkward.
Just in case this point isn’t abundantly clear, first dates are awkward. And when you throw me, Queen of the Awkward, into these types of situations? Well, let’s just say no good can come of it. It’s not that I suffer from uncontrollable flatulence or excessive sweating when meeting new people; I just kind of stare at my shoes and wish for the Apocalypse.
Anyway, after a week of exploring Match.com and chatting with a few fine fellows, I decided to take it to the next step – …

[date] Meeting My Match: Part Deux

A week into my Match.com experiment and I haven’t quite decided whether I like it. On one level, scoping out someone’s profile is kind of like vetting a potential date. On another, chemistry is hard to transfer over the Internet – at least in only a week’s span.
On the plus side, there’s been plenty of interest. This may be attributed to me being a V in a sea of Ps. But I like to think that getting to know me sounds infinitely better than living out the rest of your …
