[eat] Wichita’s Best Burritos

16 May 2010 by Maria Mannani 4 Comments

burritoGood burritos aren’t hard to find in the ICT. In fact, there are so many varieties available that it’s nearly impossible to go wrong. Wichita is home to some amazing Mexican eateries. Fortunately, they all serve some delicious burritos. Here are a few of my favorites:

1) Rene’s Mexican Restaurant, Mexican Food, and Taco Mexican have some of the most authentic Mexican fast food available in Wichita.  All of these restaurants are owned by the same person and offer the same items at each restaurant. In my opinion, the Colorado is the best burrito on their menu. It’s loaded with grilled steak, diced potatoes, melted cheese, and salsa. Their tortillas are homemade, lightly buttered and full of flavor. Their breakfast burritos are also amazing. I recommend the ham, egg and cheese burrito for those early-morning cravings.

2) Playa Azul has several amazing burritos as well. Their chicken burritos are delicious and loaded with veggies and cheeses. The beef and cheese burrito is one of my favorite items on their menu. The portions are incredibly huge, and can usually double as a second meal. They pair well with margaritas, too. Playa Azul serves their burritos with Mexican rice and refried beans.

3)  Felipe’s Jumbo Burrito is huge and fairly inexpensive. It comes loaded with your choice of either pork or beef and beans. It’s then covered with your choice of Chile Verde or Chile con Carne and melted cheese. It also pairs well with a Flaming Cazuela.

4) Margarita’s Cantina has several burritos on the menu. However, I highly suggest trying the Margarita Burrito Especial. Not only is this burrito large, but it’s filled with your choice of meat (burrito, chicken, or pork) and covered in a tasty sour cream sauce. It’s also covered with veggies and cheese. Their chips and salsa are a delicious addition, which makes this a great meal. Their prices are also very reasonable.

These are just a few of the delicious burritos I’ve found around town. However, I know there are plenty more. So, Wichita, please enlighten me!

What I’d like to know is do any of these places offer vegetarian options of these burritos? Can you ask to just leave off the meat?

What no Connies’s or La Chinita or El Mexico they have three of the best.

Jan – fellow vegetarian here. I haven’t eaten at any of these places, but veg burritos are usually pretty easy to come by. Go for black beans and avoid refried, which often contain lard (if you’re picky about that kind of thing).

No Lalo’s Express? I am disappointed.
