[win] 2 Tickets to Gridiron, Wichita’s News Parody Musical

8 April 2010 by verb [ICT] staff 19 Comments

gridironGridiron, one of Wichita’s oldest and most hilarious stage shows, stars members of the local media singing (sort of), dancing (sort of) and spoofing the past year’s news and newsmakers.

Stars include Bonnie Bing of the Wichita Eagle, local funnyman Bucky Walters, Ted Woodward of KNSS, Bill Roy of the Wichita Business Journal and, most importantly, verb [ICT]’s own Steph Barnard. Several “mystery guests” also tend to pop up on stage each year.

Gridiron is put on by the Kansas Pro Chapter of the Society of Professional Journalists, and proceeds fund journalism scholarships for Kansas college students.

Leave a comment below to win two tickets to this year’s show, which takes place April 15-17 at the Orpheum. (Winner gets to pick which night to attend.) If you’ve been to Gridiron before, tell us what your favorite memory of the show is; if not, tell us which outrageous news event of the past year you’d like to see the cast portray. On Tuesday, April 13th, we’ll choose a winner using the Random Number Generator.

Please note: Due to the crass humor used in the show and the fact that kids wouldn’t know who they’re talking about anyway, Gridiron is intended for enjoyment by adults only.

Contest Rules: All entrants must be 18 years of age or older, unless otherwise stated and/or posted. The winner will be chosen at random from comments received. The winner will be notified at the email address used when posting the comment. Only one entry per person.

My favorite moment was last year, when the female anchors of all three major local news stations were on stage, singing together. It was so unlikely, which made it all the more hilarious.

    Anyone but Brownback……

I agree with Samuel the three female anchors singing was great! However, you can’t go wrong with Bonnie Bing as the naughty Fairy Tale Princess!

I’ve never been to Gridiron. If I were to win, I’d love to see a reenactment of the couple who got robbed while making whoopee in the dumpster downtown.

I really enjoyed Steph in the Sham-wow skit. And now, thanks to that skit, every time I see a sham wow in a store, I think of Steph. :)

I really enjoyed Denny Bruce’s solo song last year. She has a fantastic voice and terrific comedic delivery. I’m looking forward to seeing her again. She’s one talented lady!

I hope there will be much discussion of the new arena. But mostly I hope I win the tickets.

Gridiron is one of my favorite things about Wichita. Winning free tickets is also one of my favorite things, so both together would have to be AWESOME.

  • Jennifer Keller said:

OMG….So busy I have not bought Gridiron tickets yet. Always a great show — I don’t know if anything this year will top toilet skit last year! Please choose me! Free is good.

This has been a great year for Gridiron material! I can’t wait to see it in person. Please randomly generate my number, so I can spend extra money on alcohol instead of tickets.

  • Dave said:

Always a fantastic show and a great cause. I am expecting at least a reference to the Greenpeace report and Koch response.

  • RNW said:

Never been, sorry to say. Something about the jail & county commission would be good.

Gridiron: Never been and would sure enjoy the experience. Personal life dream of mine along with solving world hunger and backpacking across Idaho. Anyway, I would like to see something done a bit on all the times Wichita and or Kansas made national news…typically not the most flattering(dumster lovers etc). Thank you!

  • Jason Dilts said:

Something about Kelly Parks & The FBI would be priceless!

  • Sandra said:

Would love to win tickets. I have heard about this for years but never attended.
