[drink] Caffeine on the Cheap

Mead's Corner

I know, I know: the cheapest way to get your java fix is to brew it up yourself at home. But there are some days when that’s just not going to happen, and a quick coffee run on the way to work is required.  Luckily for the financially challenged among us, several local coffee shops offer special deals to help you stretch your latte budget.

This is pretty much the best-kept coffee secret in Wichita. Are you ready? Go to Watermark Books between 7 and 9 a.m. Monday-Friday and order a regular coffee (any size). The cashier will flip a coin and ask you to call it. If you win the coin toss, your coffee is free. FREE! That’s even cheaper than homebrew! And hey, even if you don’t win, the prices are still a little lower than Starbucks.

Riverside Perk offers a daily drink special: double drink-card punches on Monday, half-price specialty drinks on Tuesday, BOGO on Wednesday, and half-price smoothies on Thursday.

Stop by Mead’s Corner for double card punches on Thursdays and 15 percent off on Wednesdays for anyone who mentions the “Twitter discount.” You heard it here first… unless you already heard about it on Twitter.

Fresh Roast Coffee at Clifton Square is now selling brewed joe in the mornings in addition to its bulk coffee business. The prices are in line with other local shops, but for those looking to save money and cut calories, Fresh Roast offers the rare 8 oz. cup option. (A “small” at most places is 12 oz.) It’s like getting the kiddie ice cream cone: cheaper and not quite as guilt-inducing.

Poetic Justice has happy hour every day from 2-4 p.m. verb [ICT]’s Ashley Perkins recommends the black forest latte.

Where do you get your fix when money is tight? Let us know in the comments.

I can’t live without Il Primo. The Chai Tea Latte is my fix. Not that it’s really cheap, but it’s super delicious and in an awesome location at Central and Woodlawn. Love love love this place, and their breakfast is rockin’ too, which is rare at little coffee shops!

I had no idea about the flipping a coin at Watermark!

Neither did I till I went there one morning. It is my favorite thing.

Not local, but I think Borders also has happy hour (1/2 price drinks) from 3-5 or 3-6 every weekday.
