[listen] One Good Jukebox – Savute’s Italian Ristorante

7 January 2010 by Ashley Perkins 5 Comments

savutesI love a good jukebox. The music changes, the prices get higher, records are replaced by CDs are replaced by digital music, but my love remains. This feature is designed to shed some light on Wichita’s best jukeboxes.

Jukebox #4 – Savute’s Italian Ristorante, 3303 N. Broadway

Unlike many of my favorite jukeboxes, this one has never received any of my hard-earned money. I’ve been lucky enough to be with my friend and fellow ‘box lover, Cory Harrington, who allows me to play my favorite songs on his dime. Before I give you my opinion on this machine, I want to let him share his.

“The juke box at Savute’s takes you back to a time where a $5 bill will kill 30 minutes of your time,” Harrington says. ” There is no need for downloads; your most favorite 30 songs are on there, you have to just keep looking. The Captain (Pete) has put on the seatbelt light. Please put all seats in the upright position and return all loose items to their places. Please turn off all cell phones and radio devices, sit back, and enjoy the flight.”

I think the atmosphere is the first reason why I enjoy this jukebox. This bar has an aviation theme, which means that you don’t sit in regular chairs, but old airplane seats. Also, you will find yourself surrounded by photos of airplanes and a diverse crowd of patrons.

Another thing I appreciate about this ‘box is the plethora of compilation albums that it contains. This allows for a lot of popular song choices, and since I like to be the most popular girl in the bar, this is a good thing. Some of the compilations include Pure Funk, various NOW That’s What I Call Music volumes, and Suddenly ’70s.

Some of my favorite offerings on this ‘box include the aforementioned compilations, Chicago, and Tom Petty. Prices are $1 for four plays, $2 for four plays, and $5 for 20 plays. (It doesn’t get much cheaper than that!)

Great article! Another thing I love about this bar are the “in flight” snacks…like pepperoni, peppers, cheese and popcorn. It is so much fun to sing a long to the ‘box and have fun snacks.

I’ve been wondering if anyone was going to get to Savute’s. One of my closest friends is a Savute and the place is definitely a one of a kind experience. I have some really good memories of that place. Thanks
