[think] New Year’s Resolutions – Wichita Style

When the ball drops tonight, what will you resolve to do? Losing weight and getting organized are two of the most common resolutions, but there are many more being made around the ICT. Thanks to the focus groups I have on Facebook and Twitter, several people were willing to share their resolutions with me.
Dani Stone – 1) Put myself first more often. 2) Champion VOGM (Vein of Galen Malformation), a disorder that affects my daughter, harder than I did last year. 3) Become more organized, mentally & physically!
Missy Gordy – No “resolutions” this year. I have a “goal” instead. To take better care of myself and my loved ones. Mental and physically.
Jana Curl – Learn to let it go. Whether it is in an argument (I don’t have to win) or being irritated with someone , I gotta learn to let it go.
Kurt Oswald - To survive 2010.
Sara Turvey – Last year I worked on saving and giving financially. This year I want to do same with energy, time, and priorities including diet and exercise.
verb [ICT]’s own Bailey Ketterman – Stand up for myself and realize that doing so doesn’t make me a bitch.
Fe Vorderlandwehr – Spend more time thinking of others.
Katie Grover – 1. figure out how to be a fabulous first time mommy, 2. step up my game at work [at Heartspring] to promote services for kids with special needs.
Other resolutions people shared with me included being better parents and finding better jobs. So what are my resolutions? I am so glad you asked!
Get in shape. I told my girl, Carly Holmes, (who is still running just as fast as she can) I would run a 5k with her and unless I’m running from athletic zombies, I won’t be running that far anytime soon.
Buy more locally. I need to make more of an effort to shop at local stores instead of always taking the easy road to a Big Box.
Attend a First Friday and Final Friday. I admit it – I champion these efforts, but have never been a part of them. Shame on me. But I plan to get my party and my art on in 2010! For the community, of course.
Continue to live in the present. I love the freedom of being at home because it allows me to set aside worries and focus on the here and now and my family. I want to keep that momentum going.
As we toss aside the remnants of 2009 and charge head first into a new decade, remember to set realistic goals or resolutions for yourself, don’t beat yourself up if you flounder a little and remember to get back on the horse if you fall off your resolution wagon. Oh, and Happy New Year!

I would love to say I’m resolving to spend more time with family…but I’m freaking Native American and I spend pretty much all my free time from May until September with family. Barbeques, pow-wows, reunions, and holidays; by the time it’s over I don’t want to see any of them, ever again. Then it’s time for Christmas. No, seriously, I love them all and feel sorry for people who don’t have 30+ cousins to keep track of.
I DO resolve to be better prepared for family intrusions. MY family is likely to show up at any time, and probably intend to stay the night (or two) with their kids in tow. So, while the post-Christmas sales are upon us, and I have Christmas cash in my pocket, I’m buying some airbeds and inexpensive pillows, thrifting some sheets and blankets, and a couple of those Rubbermaid totes sized for fake trees to store it all in. Then it will go in the storage room of the barn, and the next time seven people show up and plan on crashing my house? I’m prepared, and don’t feel like I have to give up my bed.
So, even though our New Year doesn’t start until June: Afvcke Nettvcakorakko!
