[drink] Signature Drink – Yogi’s

18 December 2009 by Ashley Perkins No Comment

YogisDrink: A shot of Dr. McGillicuddy’s peppermint schnapps and a can of Natty Light

Price: $3 for the shot; $1 for the can

“What can I get for you, baby?” I knew my night was off to a great start with this greeting from our server at Yogi’s, 2804 S. Seneca. This south side bar lives in infamy as the place the car ran into last December, so I was excited to experience it for the first time. Located in a former Sizzler building, the establishment is spacious and obviously a local favorite.

When my companions and I asked our server to recommend a signature drink, she quickly replied with “Dr. McGillicuddy’s.” Although she said no one had ever ordered one from her, she was convinced this was the drink we needed to try. When I asked her if it was mixed with anything, she said “I’m sure,” but when the shots came to our table, that was clearly not the case. So, we ordered Natty Light chasers, because really, what goes better with peppermint schnapps?

My Take: This drink combination was surprisingly refreshing. (Well, it made my throat tingly anyway.) Between the inexpensive beer and easy to drink liquor, it took me back to the days of drinking on the (super) cheap in college. When I return to Yogi’s, I’m going to try to make it on a karaoke night, because that’s when the real magic happens, apparently. I recommend you do the same, baby.
