[move] Running Just As Fast As I Can: Week 5
Four weeks ago, I revealed that I made the decision to run a 5K for my birthday in February – a decision that came after nine years of less-than-frequent exercise. My adventures in fitness continue below…
I had the best laid plans for my holiday. Here’s what happened instead:
- Skipped Zumba last Wednesday. Went directly home, put on my pajamas and watched reality TV.
- Channelled my inner Paula Deen and baked a chocolate pie. I didn’t get hit in the face by a turkey (thankfully). I did, however, forget all about my healthy eating plan and performed quality control on the pie. Eating two pieces qualifies as taste-testing, right?
- Slept in on Thursday. I didn’t set my alarm to wake up and exercise. Instead I woke up just in time to change out of my pajamas into sweats and throw my hair in a ponytail before the family arrived. Obviously we keep it classy at the Holmes house.
- Ate any and everything I could. Turkey, stuffing and mashed potatoes OH MY. I didn’t stop there either. Turns out my plan to eat only what I like was a big fail because I like everything.
- Continued eating any and everything I could. This lasted all weekend. I did have a great road trip to KC which helped to get away from the leftovers, but… I chowed down on greasy bar food and pumpkin pancakes instead. Oops.
- Skipped Shocker Fitness yesterday. When I fall off the exercise/healthy eating wagon, I fall hard. Good thing I have a lot of fat to soften the blow of the fall.
As you can see, the past week hasn’t been the best. I did get caught up on some sleep, though, so it wasn’t all bad. Plus those pumpkin pancakes were pretty much amazing. Rather than set another plan that I may or may not stick to, I think I’ll just say that this coming week I’m going to try to put this past week behind me, move forward and stop skipping workouts. I’m also going to forget all about the deliciousness of those pumpkin pancakes (okay, sorry… I’ll shut up about the pancakes already) and get back to eating better.
Or I’ll just change this column into a vlog in which I sing “I Think We’re Alone Now” every week instead. That was always my ultimate plan. Who really wants to read about me running? Wouldn’t you rather watch me dance around my mom’s basement and sing along to Tiffany’s Greatest Hits instead? No?!? Okay, then. I’m lacing up my tennis shoes now.

Hang in there girl! Everyone slips up, you just have to get back on track. Come run with me tonight at the Andover Y!
Oh, sad.
I took my parents’ dogs for a walk on Thanksgiving Day and Sedg Co Park was deserted. So I kept thinking to myself, “I’m not the only one out here. Carly is on a walk somewhere, too.” You weren’t, as it turns out, but thinking you were helped me get out there too.
Thanks for the compliment on the pumpkin pancakes! I believe it you! You can do it!
Thanks Shayna. The pancakes were soooo good. I must get the recipe.
Amy-I had every intention of walking but my bed wouldn’t let me leave :) I’m glad you were out there though. That park has a nice walking trail.
