[do] Wichita Center for the Arts

It’s no secret that Wichita is an arts town, and that’s why I love it.
There are a number of all-encompassing 0rganizations that promote creative Wichitans in some capacity and give them a chance to showcase their talent, and The Wichita Center for the Arts is one of my favorites.
Between the Center Theatre, the Mary R. Koch School of Visual Arts, and the Gallery, there is something for every artistic taste. Even if you’re merely an arts appreciator, the center has numerous volunteer opportunities.
Ready to learn how to make glass beads or delve into figure study? The next set of courses is set for January through April. The hard part? Picking a class is nearly impossible. There are over 30 classes on everything from printmaking to cooking. You can find one for first-time painters or one that caters to the seasoned potter.
Next, head over to the Gallery, which has a permanent collection of over 6,500 pieces. Aside from those resources, they are also constantly cycling in and out new exhibits. It’s open Tuesday through Sunday afternoons and admission is free. I’m a college student, so that word always stands out to me.
Last stop at the CFTA, my personal favorite, the Center Theatre. They need actors, ushers, and people who want to see a good show. The Center Theatre draws on the talents of the ICT’s finest stage professionals, including directors like Dr. Richard Welsbacher. Performances are geared toward every taste and include classical and contemporary works.
The WCFTA is about to celebrate its 90th Anniversary in 2010 and is concurrently running a special on membership. Not only does membership support the center, it also gets you a discount on classes and event tickets.
Not ready for a starring role? Volunteers can try their hand at helping with everything from events to deliveries to office work.
No matter what your forte, join me in my battle cry to support the Wichita arts scene and have a great time while you’re at it.

What a wonderful article! I work for WCFTA and believe me, all of us here appreciate the support!
Thanks for stopping by! And being such a great org!
I love WCFTA. I’ve taken a drawing class, an oil painting, and an abstract painting class and they have tremendously improved my skills and increased my respect for art TENFOLD. When I was in high school, they had a student show with one of my pieces, and a faculty/student show with my two of my works also. This is by far one of my favorite places in Wichita to visit and they are so supportive of young, emerging artists. For me, this was a very important place in the formation of my self confidence as an artist! Great article and highly, highly recommend!
