[do] Take a Shot of Espresso Theater

23 November 2009 by Denise Grays 3 Comments

If Thirsty Thursdays aren’t your thing, Mead’s Corner has an alternative activity geared toward creative types.

Espresso Theatre is a free open mic night with a thespian twist. It’s held at Mead’s on the second and fourth Thursdays of every month from 7:30 to 8:30 p.m with Dana Ellison serving as the “Mistress of Ceremonies.”

Both performers and spectators are welcome to join in, and the open mic is not just limited to theater – participants can recite poetry, do a comedy routine, or sing.  While some aspiring thespians bring their own material, Dana has scripts available for use.

Espresso theater provides an opportunity for budding playwrights to test out material in front of a live audience, actors to practice for auditions, or to live out your stage dreams. The only rules: performances are limited to 15 minutes or less and language needs to stay clean – no F-Bombs or G-Ds, please.

Espresso Theatre started in August 2009 and is quickly gaining a following. It is the only theatre-themed open mic night in Wichita.

I’ve been to Espresso Theatre one time and it was WONDERFUL. I wish my schedule allowed me to go more often.
