Each week, the verb [ICT] team will answer your burning (or not-so-burning) questions. Is there something you’d like to know about us? E-mail the editors or leave a comment.
Not Bon Jovi, that’s for damn sure. I’m not much for arena-sized musicians. Or, at least, musicians that could stand a chance of filling an arena in Wichita. But, hey, Reptar on Ice! would be pretty rad. – Aimee Brock
I would love to see Zack Attack perform. What the arena need is a little “Friends Forever” action with Zack Morris and friends. If Wichita could make that happen, it would be pretty epic. On a serious note, I think the arena should open with a concert by bands from Wichita such as Gooding, polarOPPOSITEbear, etc. It would be nice to come together as a community to support local artists first. Some other acts that I would purchase a ticket for in a second include Ray LaMontagne, Black Eyed Peas, Miley Cyrus and Pat Benatar. I do not apologize for my awesome taste in music. I also think we should try to get Kathy Griffin here so she could bring the funny, and a Cirque du Soleil production is pretty high on my lists of wants. – Carly Holmes
I would like to see the Black Eyed Peas come to the new arena. Why? Because I love their music and they’re actually a fairly popular band. I think it would sell out quickly, because Wichita hasn’t had a band like them come here yet. – Maria Mannani
It’s hard to pick just a few! Beyonce, Michael Buble, Elton John, Pink, and all those kids from Glee would have me lining up to buy tickets. I am also pumped to see the contemporary Christian bands in March – Newsboys, Tenth Avenue North and Third Day are some of my favorite bands. And, though I’m admittedly not a huge sports fan, I would like to see some NCAA basketball (KU, preferably) for the menfolk in my life. – Andrea Anglin
I would like to see any band that wouldn’t play in Wichita during its heyday 10-plus years ago. - Denise Grays
Barenaked Ladies. Groan about “One Week” all you want, but they can still fill a stadium. And their new album drops soon, so the timing is perfect. - Steph Barnard
I am not a huge “concert person,” and most of the bands that I do have a desire to see, I’ve already seen. However, there is one performer still on my concert wishlist, and that is Paul McCartney. He came to Oklahoma, so how far-fetched is Kansas? – Ashley Perkins
I’m looking forward to the circus in June and other non-concert events. I’d love to produce a high-end party, fundraiser or corporate event at the arena –something jaw-dropping that would leave people amazed and talking for months. – Kris Schindler

I vote for Depeche Mode!!! uhhh or Stryper… ha!
WYLD STALLYNS!
*air guitar*
Great photo Sam!
Two words: Neil. Diamond. He’s still alive, right?
MILEY CYRUS. WOOT WOOT Or Britney Spears
to be honest most of the people I would like to see in concert arent big enough for the arena. I would love to have Sharon Jones and the Dap Kings visit Wichita for a show. Easily one of the best shows I have ever attended. The whole dap tone label for that matter is pretty good.
Alot of indie hip hop acts would suffice. But again these artists wont sell out an arena. They are more suitable for a club atmosphere.
I think it would be awesome for promoters to reach out to various artists. Put together a packaged show.
- Glee cast tour (supposedly happening this summer)
- Jill Scott
- Crowded House
- zolof the rock and roll destroyer
And I swear if the bring Manheim Steamroller into Wichita again, I’m going to make a sign and protest.
Hands down, BETTE MIDLER!
I would die for a Glee cast tour. And probably a Billy Joel/Elton John combo because I’m 28 going on 55.
I’m with PaturnOne on this. I’d love to see them package a bunch of lesser known bands into one big show like a festival of sorts. It works in KC, why not here?
Now for my epic lists of bands that I’d pay at least $20 to see and don’t care who knows it:
Taking Back Sunday, Bayside, Anberlin, Damien Rice, Story of the Year, Weezer, Maroon 5, Cake, Third Eye Blind, John Mayer, REM, Angel & Airwaves, Plus 44, Blink 182, Harry Connick Jr, Dashboard Confessional, Carrie Underwood, etc and so forth.
Any of the following bands would be awesome – The Smashing Pumpkins, The Flaming Lips, Silversun Pickups, Muse, Gooding, Beck, Sonic Youth, Radiohead, Dave Matthews Band, Explosions In The Sky, The Dead Weather, The Pixies, Tool, Yeah Yeah Yeahs, Wilco, Red Hot Chili Pepppers, Green Day, R.E.M., P J Harvey, Cat Power, Neil Young, Zappa Plays Zappa, David Bowie, Cold Play, The Arcade Fire, Death Cab For Cutie, Bjork, Depeche Mode and many others.
I would love to see Rob Zombie or Slipknot. I voted this thing in and the first few acts being country makes me wanna put out my eyes.
Green Day or Black Eyed Peas would be so awesome. If Kathy Griffin came, I would actually change my cynical opinion of Wichita…at least for that night. :-) She is frickin’ hilarious and makes me happy. Wichita *needs* comedy!
Oh and my girl Pink! I’d be first in line for tix.
Please…no more Steamroller, Bon Jovi or country! Wichita is made up of more than soccer moms and rednecks…or redneck soccer moms. :-)
Citizen Cope, Cake, maybe some Plain White T’s. I love me some Depeche Mide and ELO….but I don’t want to be greedy.
I would like to second the list of artists that Dustin posted a few comments above me. :)
It’d be super sweet not to have to make a long drive to see some of my favorite bands for once.
I would love to see James Taylor, Jackson Browne, The Eagles, Steely Dan, Elton John/Billy Joel – standard old fart fare!
TORI AMOS!!!!!!!
Ok, so Paul McCartney got his shout out earlier. But I’ll do it again. PAUL MCCARTNEY.
If I don’t see the codger before he kicks it, I’m going to horribly sad.
I think we need to make sure that if a great (in our opinion) act comes to the IBA we need to make sure it’s FULL… cause that’s a fast way to make sure we don’t get more good acts if the ones coming through aren’t selling out.
That being said. Bands I would love to see in Wichita and I think (most) could sell out here.
From Dustin’s list and some I added:
The Smashing Pumpkins, The Flaming Lips, Muse, Radiohead, Dave Matthews Band, Tool, Yeah Yeah Yeahs, Wilco, Red Hot Chili Peppers, Coldplay, Death Cab For Cutie, Cake, John Mayer, The Killers, MGMT, Modest Mouse, R.E.M., The Shout Out Louds, Vampire Weekend.
A few might be a stretch… but we can dream right.
I agree with Allison. Bette Midler would be awesome to see. I think after the number of times I’ve watched Beaches in my life she owes me a concert in Wichita.
I would love to see Keith Urban, Billy Joel, Better Than Ezra, Zac Brown Band, Elton, Pink, Daughtry, Def Lepard/Poison, George Strait (yay he is coming), Augustana, U2, etc. And like the lovely Carly says – I don’t apologize for my awesome taste in music either.
I’m gonna say it — how about we just transfer all those awesome rock concerts to the Arena?? I love seeing Incubus and Tool, but I’d like a better facility. I just went down to Tulsa to see Slipknot, too.
I’d really like to see comedians come here, too. Big ones. For sure, Kathy Griffith rocks my socks. I also like the Paul McCarntney idea – that would be super rad. It would make my decade to see RHCP or Foo Fighters or Flaming Lips come to Wi-cheetah. Just look at my facebook. All of those would make me happy! :)
And someday… DAVE MATTHEWS BAND!
I’d love to see the Red Hot Chili Peppers and MUSE come to town.
So many awesome things already posted. Zach Brown band would be an awesome show but probably not big enough for the IBA. here’s my list borrowing heavily from others
Red Hot Chili Peppers, Kenny Chesney, Jimmy Buffett, FloBots, Aerosmith (they are still together, I think), DMB would be amazing, REM, and a show that included The Crystal Method would make me insanely happy.
