[eat] Best Places to Cure a Hangover

Breakfast

We’ve all been there. One beer turns into six. Or seven. A glass of wine turns into a bottle. Or two. And before you know it, you’re Jell-o wrestling in a kiddie pool in someone’s backyard.

It happens.

So the next time you wake up with a serious case of dry mouth (or dry heaves) and a splitting headache, pop back a few Advil and drag your disheveled self to one of these guaranteed-to-make-you-feel-somewhat-human-again restaurants.

  1. The BeaconA Wichita staple for the morning after, this downtown greasy spoon serves some of the best breakfast and lunch food to quell that bout of nausea. From enormous omelets to stacks of pancakes, you’ll easily soak up any residual alcohol. Wash your meal down with bottomless cups of coffee or the infamous toga juice (not for the faint of heart). If you’re in the mood for some serious grub, go for the chicken fried steak. It’s enough to feed two people and includes several sides for under $10. Your budget and your belly will thank you.
  2. The AnchorWith a huge menu of greasy delictables (and a substantial vegetarian section to boot), you’re guaranteed to find something that sounds good. If you subscribe to the “hair of the dog” theory, there are plenty of libations to choose from, including an impressive beer selection. And if you know what’s good for you, you’ll add some sweet potato fries to your order.
  3. Sunday brunch at Yia Yia’s or Granite CityThese expansive buffets take hangover food to the next level. From eggs benedict to omelet bars and incredible desserts (Yia Yias) and cinnamon rolls (Granite City), you’ll be on the road to recovery in no time.
  4. TJ’s Burger House – When you wake up at noon and need grub – stat, TJ’s will satisfy your juicy burger craving. Arguably some of the tastiest burgers in town, this Delano favorite serves fresh cut fries and lots of appetizers if burgers aren’t your thing. But if they are, go for the hickory bacon cheeseburger and share an order of fries. The portions are enormous.
  5. Renee’s – This tiny little drive-through space serves authentic, stick-to-your-ribs Mexican fare. Bonus? It’s open 24 hours. The breakfast burritos are substantial and easy on the wallet and, thanks to the drive through, you don’t even need to change out of your pajamas.

Granite City brunch is definitely one of my guilty pleasures — hangover or not!

If you’re up early enough, Old Mill Tasty Shop is a pretty decent place to cure a hangover, as well. Maybe it’s just me, but ice cream always sounds good when I wake up still slightly drunk the morning after a night of tomfoolery. A BBQ sandwich and a giant old-school vanilla malt later, and I’m always feeling fine.

My votes: The Nifty Kitchen, Toc’s, Lalo’s (for breakfast burritos), Riverside Cafe.

Can you get electrocuted from licking a computer screen ’cause… um…dang that picture looks good. Is that a Beacon spread?
I want to go to there.

Renee’s knows me oh too well at 1 a.m., it’s the only place that is open 24 hours with the power to stop the hangover before it starts!
