Each week, the verb [ICT] team will answer your burning (or not-so-burning) questions. Is there something you’d like to know about us? E-mail the editors or leave a comment.

Carly Holmes loves El Rodeo: “A year ago I didn’t even know where El Rodeo was. Today it has become our version of Cheers for me and my friends. Everyone knows our names and it is guaranteed that Juan Diego (our favorite waiter) will give us a hug before we’ve even been seated… a kiss on the cheek if he’s feeling feisty. I hesitated to even share this with you because I’m afraid of El Rodeo becoming so popular that we’ll have to wait to be seated, but I had to let you know that the chicken nachos and $1 margaritas on Tuesdays have changed my life and they will change yours too. Where else can you eat dinner and have drinks and still only have a $10 tab at the end of the night? Nowhere. El Rodeo has good food, strong drinks and is full of awesomeness – that’s what makes it not only my favorite restaurant, but also Wichita’s best-kept secret.”

Anna Bassham can’t get enough of Mead’s Corner: “It is the perfect place for me to sit and enjoy my vanilla latte and nibble a scone while I work on my laptop.”

Liz Sothman lives for coffee beans from The Spice Merchant: “Whether you want a specialty flavor or a popular blend, they’ve got it. They can grind the beans for you or you can take them whole and grind them yourself. Quality caffeine in a cup.”

Shea Sylvia’s guilty pleasure is Da Cajun Shak: “A taste of down-home Louisiana cooking right here in northeast Wichita. After my first visit with co-workers, I was hooked. I never thought I would consider an alligator tail or crawfish po’ boy to be one of my favorite meals, but the crusty bread, crispy and well-seasoned meat, and spicy remoulade make for one tasty combination. Be sure to ask for extra remoulade (for fry-dipping) and don’t plan on eating another meal for the rest of the day. You’ll be stuffed. But it’s a blissful kind of stuffed.”

Denise Grays knows where the best burgers are: “There’s a local burger joint, JR’s Place, 707 N. Waco.  The strip of businesses used to be a gas station but now is home to burgers, chicken sandwiches, and hot dogs made fresh to order along with seasoned fries. Yummy fruit cobblers for dessert are available as well.  Friendly staff, reasonable prices, and a home-like atmosphere with The Price is Right on the tv during the lunch hour.”

Steph Barnard treasures Passage to India: “Quite possibly the best Indian food I’ve ever had, and that’s saying something. Plus, my date and I usually have the place almost to ourselves. But I wouldn’t mind changing that, because this restaurant must not go out of business. Ever.”
